MANHATTAN, Kan. - Westminster men's lacrosse dropped their first-ever game to Kansas State, 14-1. 

The Blue Jays begin their club season 0-1 with the loss. 

Despite the loss, Westminster put up a strong fight against their experienced opponent. 

"We came in our first game with high energy and maintained it throughout the game," said Coach Kristi Crowley. "We finished strong." 

Andrew Patterson scored the first-ever goal in the history of Westminster men's lacrosse. He received a pass from Jeremy Hill and drove toward the goal from the top right. A strong right-hand shot flew past the Wildcat goalkeeper to tally the goal for Patterson. 

"Three people really stuck out to me, Jacob Freudenthal, Ethan Muffett, and Dyllon Durell, our three captains," said Crowley. "Their leadership, their intensity, and their never-ending fight on the field impressed me today. Durell especially was a contant presence on defense, taking shots himself in protection of our goalies."

Tirso Aquino started in goal for the Blue Jays and recorded nine saves. Jonathan Neaf played the second half in goal, making 12 saves.

"We have come a long way. We were figuring things out in the first half, but in the second half we looked like a much stronger, quicker, and better team. I'm excited to see what we have in store for the future."

Freudenthal led the team in ground balls with 13. Muffet led the team in casued turnovers with nine. Jake Gaal led the team in shots with four.

The Blue Jays open at home Feb. 18 against Benedictine for the first-ever lacrosse games played at Westminster. The women open the day at 1 p.m., and the men follow immediately after.
