Softball: Blue Jays At Fontbonne University Preview

Fulton, Mo., April 14, 2021 – The Westminster College Blue Jay Softball team is back in action tonight on the road at Fontbonne University.  The Blue Jays will be looking to rebound from a tough trip to Louisville last weekend with a couple strong performances tonight.  The Jays are 4-2 in conference play and looking to improve their standing.

Taking a look at the Westminster College Blue Jays (11-13, 4-2 SLIAC):

  • The Blue Jays are currently in 4th place in the SLIAC.
  • The Blue Jays come into the games after dropping a road double header to conference foe's Spalding University 7-2 and 4-3.
  • The Blue Jays are led at the plate by senior Mackenzie Myers who is hitting .452 with eight doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI. She also has an on base percentage of .474. Senior Brooke Laidley follows hitting .395 with seven doubles, four home runs and 16 RBI's.  Emily Esquivel is batting .320 with 11 RBI's.
  • Junior Laney Rosson leads the team with 11 walks drawn and an on base percentage at .403.
  • Rosson and Esquivel lead the team in steals with 6.
  • The Blue Jays are led on the mound by senior Katie Price (6-5) with a 5.15 ERA she has 39 strikeouts while allowing 14 walks in 68.1 inning.
  • The Blue Jays come into the game batting .281 as a team with an on base percentage of .334.  They are slugging .385 while having hit ten home runs.

Taking a look at the Fontbonne University Griffins (3-1, 7-8 SLIAC):

  • Lexi Becker leads the Griffins hitting .455 with an on base percentage of .529 while scoring 15 runs.  Grace Paez is batting .435 with a team leading 13 RBI's. Lily Jones checks in with a .349 batting average and 10 RBI's
  • Jones leads the team with 5 stolen bases.
  • Gracie Morris and Hannah Miener lead the Griffins with one home run each.
  • The Griffins are led on the mound by Abby Richmond who is 3-4 on the season in 9 appearances and five starts.  She has a 1.93 ERA in 40.0 innings.  She has 15 strikeouts and walked 7.
  • The Griffins enter the game batting .303 as a team with an on base percentage of .376.  The team is slugging .391 and has hit two home runs.
