Westminster Wrestling Falls in Close Match to Ozarks

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster wrestling lost a close duel to Ozarks, losing an early lead and falling 28-20 to the Eagles.

The match is the second and final home dual for the Blue Jays, ending the season with a 1-1 split at home.

Westminster opened the dual strong, with a pin from Jacob Warren at the 157 weight class to take an early 6-0 lead.

The Eagles gained some ground in the next match with Payton Price falling in a 9-3 decision to bring the score to 6-3, but Hunter Tessman added another pin for the Blue Jats to take a strong 12-3 lead after three matches.

The Eagles won the next three matches to take 22 straight points and the lead. Dalton Landreth and Sean Sax attempted to keep the Blue Jays in the match with Landreth earning a 9-3 decision and Sax taking an easy tech fall after one round, but it wasn't enough to give Westminster the team win.

"The guys wrestled well day," said Westminster Head Coach Tony Eierman. "We gave up some weight in a few positions and wrestled a good team but we still had chances to win. We'll regroup and keep competing."

The Blue Jays travel to Marshall, Missouri, over the weekend to complete in the Missouri Valley Invitational.
