Sidique Wins Outdoor Newcomer Of The Year and Blue Jays Place 5th Overall In 2022 SLIAC Outdoor Championships

Greenville, IL. 4/30/2022- The Westminster College women's track and field team competed in the 2022 SLIAC Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday. They would score 26 total points between six separate events and placed 5th overall. Freshman runner Moenasia Sidique (Mexico, Mo / Mexico) will head back to Fulton with a lot of new hardware. Having won the Women's Track Newcomer of the Year, as well as placing 1st in the 400-meter dash, 3rd in the 200-meter dash, and was a part of the women's 4x400 meter relay team that finished in 3rd place.

Sidique left the completion in the dust in the 400, winning with a time of 58.73. A full two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, who had a time of 1:00:27. She would break her school record for the second time this year. Gracie Hamrick (Versailles, Mo. / Versailles) placed 5th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:10:80. They would score 12 total team points for the Blue Jays.

Sidique would also compete in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 3rd place with a time of 26.50. Scoring another six team points for the Jays.

Sidique and Hamrick ran in the women's 4x400 relay team alongside Avylina Powell-Qualo (Republic, Mo. / Republic) and Kelsie Speichinger (Mendon, Mo / Northwestern). They would finish in 3rd place, with a time of 4:29:91. That gave Westminster six more team points.

The four of them also ran in the women's 4x100 but received a disqualification for making a transfer outside of the 3rd and 4th zone.

Speichinger and Powell-Qualo both ran in the 100-meter dash. Powell- Qualo ran a 13:38 and finished in 5th place. Speichinger ran a 13:66 and finished in 7th. They would score 2 team points.

Powell- Qualo competed in the women's high jump on Friday but could not clear the opening bar and would not place.

The Blue Jays had one women's field athlete competing in the Outdoor Championships and that was Celena Weber (Desloge, Mo. / North County R1). She would finish 10th overall in the discus throw and threw 17.75 meters. Weber also tried her hand at the javelin toss but did not record a distance.
