Westminster College seniors Danielle Smulczenski and Muhle Dlamini have been named the 2014-15 Westminster Senior Female and Male Athletes of the Year.
Danielle Smulczenski, Cross Country/Basketball/Track and Field
Danielle Smulczenski, a senior cross country runner, basketball player and track and field competitor from Kickapoo, Missouri, was selected as the Westminster Senior Female Athlete of the Year.
Smulczenski is a four-year member of the cross country, women's basketball and track and field teams. She is on her way to becoming the first ever nine-time St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Academic All-Conference recipient. She currently has eight SLIAC Academic All-Conference awards throughout her three eligible years, and looks to grab her ninth with the spring sport's award announced in June.
Smulczenski is a member of the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams that hold the Westminster Modern Day Outdoor Track & Field records.
Smulczenski is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society. She was the Student Athlete Advisory Committee Treasurer for two years and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She served three years in the Student Government Association (SGA) as the business class manager and was a part of the Finance Committee for all four years. She was a member of Student Foundations for two years and an executive member for International Club her first two years on campus.
Smulczenski graduates with a degree in accounting and business administration and plans to work for the PGC basketball program this summer before starting her job with Ernst and Young in the auditing department in September.
Muhle Dlamini, Soccer
Muhle Dlamini, a senior men's soccer player from Simunye, Swaziland, was selected as the Westminster Senior Male Athlete of the Year.
Dlamini was a four-year member of the men's soccer team. He became the third player in program history to be named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NCAA Division III Men's All-Central Region First Team in 2014. He also earned a spot on the SLIAC All-Conference First Team in 2014. Throughout his four years on the team, he helped guide the Blue Jays to two SLIAC Championships, back-to-back SLIAC Tournament Championships and back-to-back NCAA Division III National Tournament appearances, including a "Sweet-16" appearance in 2013.
Academically, Dlamini became a member of Chi Alpha Sigma in the spring of 2014. On top of the National College Athlete Honor Society, he was a member of Alpha Mu Gamma, the Foreign Languages Honor Society. After his senior season, Dlamini earned NSCAA Scholar All-North/Central Region Second Team honors. He was also a part of the 2013 and 2014 SLIAC Academic All-Conference teams.
Dlamini spent three and a half years on SAAC and served as the president his senior year. He was a part of the Blue Blazers Investment Committee and a member of Kappa Alpha Order.
He graduates with a degree in international business and business administration with a minor in French. He plans to move to St. Louis, Missouri and find a global sales and marketing position.
