Panthers High Flying Offense Too Much For Blue Jays

Fulton, MO 1/18/2023- The Westminster College men's basketball team hosted the Greenville University Panthers on Wednesday night. The Panthers would get out to a 14-0 lead and run away with it, winning the game 109-84. The Blue Jays fall to 1-4 in the SLIAC and 2-14 overall on the season. The Panthers pick up their first conference win and improve to 1-4 in the SLIAC and 2-14 overall.

Greenville established their unique style of play from the opening tip, hitting a three to start the game and hold the Blue Jays scoreless for the first four minutes of the game taking a 14-0 lead. They would extend that lead out to 23-7 with 12:04 left in the half. The Blue Jays would try to get back into it by getting to the foul line late in the half and make it 57-40 at halftime after a Coby Williams (Versailles, Mo. / Morgan County R-2) three at the buzzer to end the half.

The Blue Jays would keep the momentum going scoring the first five points of the second half and getting within 12 points at 57-45. The Panthers would go on a run of their own and get the lead back up by over 20 points. Greenville would go on to win the game 109-84.

Tre Kempker (Eugene, MO/Eugene) would have a team-high 16 points and 9 rebounds. Jaxon Althaus (Oak Grove, MO/ Oak Grove) would have 13 points in the game to go along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Caleb Maassen (Linn, MO/Linn) would have 15 points and 6 rebounds of the bench.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday, January 21st when they take on Spalding University. That game will tip off at 2:00 PM central time.
