Blue Jays Lose To Gorloks In Final Game Of The Season

Webster Groves, MO 2/18/2023- The Westminster College traveled to Webster Groves on Saturday for the season finale against Webster University. The Blue Jays were hot in the early goings to get a 12-7 lead after a Jaxon Althaus (Oak Grove, MO/ Oak Grove) layup. The Gorloks would then get the hot shooting hand to take the lead and went on to win the game 94-59. The Blue Jays end their season with a record of 2-22 overall and 1-13 in the SLIAC. Webster ends 13-12 in the regular season and 10-4 in the SLIAC. Althaus ends his storied career with 1339 points and he is now sixth all-time in program history in points scored.

Althaus got the game going scoring the opening basket off an assist from fellow senior Makygh Galbreath( Fulton, MO/ Fulton). Galbreath would hit a three-pointer a few moments later to put the Blue Jays up 10-5 in the opening minutes. Webster would hit a three of their own to tie the game up 12-12. The Gorloks would take their first lead of the game at 16-14 with 12:19 remaining in the first half. The Gorloks would begin to get hot shooting and took a 43-30 lead at halftime.

Coby Williams ( Versailles, Mo. / Morgan County R-2) hit a three early in the second half to try and give the Blue Jays some life but the Gorloks had an answer for everything Westminster tried to do. The two teams would trade baskets but the Webster offense was too much as they took a 70-43 lead with 11:23 left in the game. The Gorloks went on to win the game 94-59.

Ben Eberlin (Hardin, IL / Calhoun) led the Blue Jays scoring 19 points in the game. Brennan Jefferies (Jefferson City, MO/ Jefferson City) had 9 points. Althaus would have 8 points and 8 rebounds.
