Hubbard's Strong Showing Leads Blue Jays To Tenth Place Finish At Bearcat Classic

Lebanon, IL, 4/9/2022 – The Westminster College men's track and field team competed at the McKendree University Bearcat Classic on Saturday. The Blue Jays would face five of their fellow SLIAC competitors at the meet. Senior jumper Devonte Hubbard (Lee's Summit, MO / Grandview Christian) would finish second place in the high jump and third place in the long jump to pace the Blue Jays to a tenth-place finish with 22 points. The Blue Jays would finish third amongst the SLIAC members at the meet.

Hubbard would start his day by clearing 1.92 meters in the high jump to claim second place an the eight team points that came with the finish. It was his high mark on the season. He would then transition to the long jump. The 2022 SLIAC Indoor long jump champion would leap a season best 6.53 meters to take third place, scoring six team points.

Freshman discus thrower Brayden Isgriggs (Cadet, MO / Patosi) would heave a throw of 41.16 meters to finish in third place in the classic. That finish would add six more points to the Jays team total. Fellow discus thrower and freshman Tucker Brown (Cuba, MO / Cuba) would unleash a throw of 35.01 meters which placed him eighth and scored the final two points of the day for the Blue Jays.

Michael Giles (Pleasant Hill, IL / Pleasant Hill) would compete in the 1500-meter run. He would finish in 38th place with a time of 4:25.67. Dexter Allen (St. Louis, MO / Saint Louis University) would compete in the 100-meter run. He would finish in 33rd place with a time of 12.59. Freshman Lane Martin (Lexington, MO / Lexington) would turn in a 13th place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:41.06.

The Blue Jays will be back on the track on Friday April 15 when they compete in the Greenville Select Meet at Greenville University.
