FULTON, Mo. - Westminster softball fell twice in a doubleheader to Greenville, dropping the first conference games of the year.

The Blue Jays fall to 6-12 on the year and 6-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. 

"Today was a great learning experience and we are still growing together as a team," said Westminster Head Coach Sara Stafford. "Greenville is a team that takes advantage of everything they get. If we could have stopped one or two plays today, we would have come out on top."

In game one, the Panthers got on the board first in the first inning on a Blue Jay error, but Westminster answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run from the Hitter of the Week, Madison Washington, to go up 2-1. 

Greenville added another run in the second to tie the game at two runs apiece, but Mackenzie Myers hit a solo shot to take back the lead after two innings. 

The Panthers broke open a lead in the fifth inning with two, two-run home runs to take a 6-3 lead. Greenville added another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh, opening the lead to 9-3 and giving Westminster one more chance to bat. 

The Blue Jays were able to add two more runs to put together a late rally, but it wasn't enough to overcome to deficit, falling 9-5. 

Katie Price took the loss on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up five runs on six hits. 

In game two, Greenville again scored the first run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. Katie Price tied the score in the third with a single up the middle to score Taylor White. 

Greenville added a run in both the fouth and six innings to go up 3-1, but Westminster added a run in the bottom of the six on a grounder from Mikala Guthrie to score Lauren Huskey. 

The Panthers broke open their lead with a five-run seventh inning to take an 8-2 lead. 

Westminster again put together a seventh-inning comeback thanks to two RBI doubles from Washington to score one run and Huskey to score two runs, but the Blue Jays eventually fellt 8-5. 

Madison Ingram took the loss on the mound, pitching six inning and giving up seven runs, six earned, on six hits. 

"Madison Ingram pitched a great game and did everything she needed to," said Stafford. "Madison Washington had a great day at the plate again and keeps doing her job. She is a great leader for our team."

The Blue Jays travel to Spalding Sunday for a doubleheader, with the first pitch coming at 1 p.m. CT.
