Blue Jays Picked Second In 2021 SLIAC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll

St. Louis, MO, 8/27/21 – The Westminster College women's soccer team and first year head coach Courtney Howe were picked to finish in a tie for second place with Webster University in this years SLIAC race.  The Blue Jays received one first place vote and 34 poll points to tie Webster University for the second spot in the poll.  The Blue Jays are coming off of a 2020 season saw the Jays go 10-3 overall and 6-3 in SLIAC play finishing 3rd.  The Blue Jays then went on to win the SLIAC Conference Tournament Championship with a thrilling 2-1 win over previously undefeated Fontbonne University.

The Blue Jays return four 2020 SLIAC Third Team All-Conference selections in sophomore Goalkeeper Megan Davidson (St. Louis, MO / Affton), sophomore forward Rachel Nolte (Wentzville, MO / Holt), junior midfielder Kelsey Gordon (St. Louis, MO / Lindbergh) and defender Maddy Lawton (Wentzville, MO / Timberland).  This group of talented players will spearhead the effort to win the 2021 SLIAC regular season championship and qualify for the post season tournament once again.

Fontbonne University received five first place votes and 43 poll points to be picked to repeat as the SLIAC regular season champions.  Greenville University was picked fourth with 37 pool points.  Spalding University, with 24 points, and Principia College, with 13 points, were picked to finish fifth and sixth.  Eureka College, 12 points, and Blackburn College, 11 points,  rounded out the poll in seventh and eighth.

The Jays open the season on the road in St. Louis, MO on September 1st when they take on the Harris Stowe State Hornets.  The link to the official SLIAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll can be found HERE.
