Westminster Advances to Semifinals with 1-0 Victory Over MUW

11/02/2024 Fulton, MO- In the SLIAC quarterfinals on November 2, 2024, Westminster College secured a 1-0 victory over MUW at the Kent and Judith Mueller Stadium in Fulton, MO, sending them on to the semifinal round.  

The match remained scoreless through the first half, with Westminster dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities. The Blue Jays recorded 19 shots, with 8 of those on target, while MUW struggled to generate offense, managing only 2 shots throughout the match. 

The breakthrough came shortly after the start of the second half. In the 46th minute, Destynee Orf found the back of the net with an assist from Faith Coates, giving Westminster a crucial lead.  

Defensively, Westminster remained solid, limiting MUW to just 2 shots and keeping their goalkeeper, Reagan Chigas, untested throughout the game. Chigas recorded a clean sheet, contributing to the team's strong defensive performance. 

The Blue Jays continued to press for more goals, earning 4 corner kicks and maintaining pressure on MUW's defense. Despite their efforts, the score remained 1-0, securing Westminster's place in the semifinals. 

With this victory, Westminster improved their record to 7-7-3 overall and 5-2-2 in conference play and now advance to face the number two seed, Webster University, in the semifinals. The match is scheduled for November 6th at 5:00PM at Worldwide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri.
