Blue Jays Comeback To Win Game 3 In Extra Innings

Lexington, Ky 3/10/2024- The Westminster College baseball team traveled to Lexington, Kentucky, for a three-game series over the weekend against Transylvania University. The Pioneers would sweep the doubleheader on Saturday, winning 10-0 in game one and 7-2 in game two. The Blue Jays would come back from being down 5-0 to win game three, 9-6 in extra innings. Transylvania improved to 8-2 on the season and the Blue Jays moved to 7-10. 

Game 1: Box Score 

  • The Blue Jays would struggle in game one on offense, only getting two hits in the game. Chris Louie would break up the no-hit bid in the top of the 5th inning with a single up the middle. Aden Pecka would get a hit in the top of the 8th inning. 

  • Derek Archer got the start on the mound for the Blue Jays. He would go 6 innings, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits and striking out 3 batters.

Game 2: Box Score 

  • Jason Pesold drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the 4th inning. 

  • Donovan Bohler hit a single to the shortstop to score Matt Lukins from 3rd to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the 7th inning. 

  • The Pioneers scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to win the game 7-2. 

  • Bode Gebbink started on the mound for the Blue Jays, pitching 7 innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits, and struck out 6 batters.

Donovan Bohler: 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 SB 

Payton Whitehead: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 SB 

Jason Pesold: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 RBI 

 

Game 3: Box Score 

  • The Blue Jays avoided the sweep after coming back from being down 5-0 to win the game 9-6 in extra innings. 

  • Westminster strung together 3 runs in the top of the 7th. 

  • They would take the lead, 6-5 in top of the 9th. The Pioneers would tie it in the bottom of the frame to force extra innings. 

  • In the top of the 10th, Matt Lukins got things started with a lead-off single to left field. Aden Pecka reached on an error. Donovan Bohler reached on an error to load the bases for Troy Romero. Romero drew an RBI walk. Keli'I Price smashed a single to center field to score Pecka. Austin Mayton scored Bohler on a groundout to the pitcher to make it 9-6 Blue Jays. 

  • Ryan Mills was back for the bottom of the 10th inning after coming on in the 9th. Mills would walk the first batter. Then got a groundout to first with the runner moving up for the first out. He would strike out the second batter and then get a pop out to the shortstop to get his 3rd win of the season.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Wednesday, March 13th when they travel to Jacksonville, IL for a doubleheader against Illinois College. 1st pitch is set for noon.
