MORRIS, Minn. - Latif Adams added 66 rushing yards to total 3,234 career rushing yards, setting the career rushing record in Westminster football's 41-28 loss to Minnesota-Morris.
Westminster concludes it's season at 4-6, with a 4-5 record in the UMAC.
"It was a good game but we shot ourselves in the foot too many times," said Westminster Head Coach John Welty. "We had a chance to take control of the game in the second half but made some mistakes that prevented us from doing that."
The Cougars scored twice in the first quarter to go up 14-0 early in the game.
On the first Blue Jay drive of the second quarter, Latif Adams cut the deficit to 14-7 on an eight-yard carry for a touchdown.
Just three minutes later, Minnesota-Morris recorded another score to increase their lead to 21-7.
Matt Quarles caught a 59-yard pass from Trent White to keep Westminster in the game, 21-14.
Minnesota-Morris closed out the first half with another touchdown, sending both teams into the break at 28-14.
The third quarter was all Cougars, as they scored three touchdowns in a row to extend their lead to 41-14.
The Blue Jays rallied in the fourth quarter, adding two more touchdowns. Ayo Oyesanya lined up and scored touchdown on a three-yard rush to end the senior defensive lineman's career.
Another senior, Mike Washington, ended his career on a 90-yard reception for a touchdown from White to make the final score 41-28.
"This is something we can learn from," said Welty. "We're gonna miss our seniors, but we feel comfortable with the group of kids we have coming back."
White added 178 yards passing and 34 yards rushing. Adams recorded 66 yards rushing. Washington led the team in reception yards with 105 on 3 catches.
Welty reflected on the season as well as the future for the program with most of the team returning.
"This was bittersweet," said Welty. "It's time for our young kids to take over. The future is bright if we stay together and work hard in the offseason. A year from now, we'll be different. We have an opportunity to do something special next year."
