Fulton, Mo. – The Westminster College men's basketball team was defeated by the defending SLIAC Champion Webster University Gorloks 76-69 on Saturday afternoon at Historic Gym.  The Blue Jays slip to 1-2 on the season and 1-2 in the SLIAC.

Early in the game a Steph Campbell three-pointer off an Emil Spriggs assist had the Blue Jays within 9-8 with 15:45 remaining in the first half.  The Gorloks would go on a 16-0 run over the next 4 minutes to take their biggest lead of the game at 25-8. 

The Blue Jays would chip away and after a Makygh Galbreath three-point play and a Camron Jamison three-pointer cut the lead to 29-21.   After trading points for a few minutes the Blue Jays would make another run. A Landon Harrison three pointer followed by an Emil Spriggs layup and two free throws by Jaxon Althaus found the Jays down just three points at 42-39.  The Gorloks however, would score the final six points of the half and take a 48-39 lead into the break.

The Blue Jays would make a small push to start the second half outscoring the Gorloks 11-5 to cut the lead to 53-50 with 12:33 remaining.  Braeden Wetrich contributed 7 points during the run.  The Gorloks would then go on a run that would push their lead back up to double figures at 70-60 with 4:04 to play.

The Jays had one more push left in them.  A 9-3 run cut the Gorlok lead to 73-69 on a Devonte Hubbard lay up with :32 to play after a missed Gorlok free throw gave the ball back to the Jays but they were unable to score and Webster would make three free throws to seal the win.

The Blue Jays were led in scoring by Harrison with 16 points followed by Althaus with 12. The Jays were led on the boards by Harrison with six rebounds. The Blue Jays were outrebounded by the Gorloks 36-26.

Westminster shot 39.1 percent from the field compared to Webster's 55.4 percent.  The Jays shot 37 percent from behind the arc compared to 21 percent for Webster.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Tuesday at Greenville University.  The Jays will play a reserve game at 5:30 p.m. and a Varsity game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
