Women's Basketball Topped by #5 Washington University in Season Opener, 92-68

The Westminster women's basketball team was topped by the Washington University Bears in their season opener, 92-68. In the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Preseason Poll, Washington was tabbed as the #5 team in Division III basketball.

The Westminster Blue Jays trailed by eight after the first quarter, 28-20, and at halftime, the Bears held the 51-36 lead. The Blue Jays were outscored by the Bears 41-32 in the second half to fall 92-68.

Junior Andrea Zalis led the game with 18 points. Senior Kasey Gatson added 16 to the board. Senior Mackenzie Haddox dished in five assists and recorded three steals.

Junior Krista Armontrout led the boards for the Blue Jays with eight rebounds. Zalis pulled down seven boards.

The Blue Jays compete against Millikin and Elmhurst in the Tip Off Tournament hosted by Greenville College on Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21.
