Blue Jays at Fontbonne University SLIAC Tournament Championship Preview

Fulton, Mo., April 23, 2021 – The Blue Jays women's soccer team will be on the road playing in the SLIAC Tournament Championship game on Saturday afternoon against the undefeated and #1 seeded Fontbonne University Griffins.  The #4 seeded Blue Jays will be looking to beat the Griffins for the first time this season.  The Griffins have given the Jays two of their three losses.  Back on March 13th at Centene Stadium the Griffins won 2-0.  A few weeks later on April 3rd the Griffins broke a 1-1 tie with 11:23 left to play in the match to win 2-1.  The Blue Jays will be looking to break through for a win against the Griffins in the most important game of the year.

Taking a look at the Westminster College Blue Jays (9-3, 6-3 SLIAC):

  • The Blue Jays are coming off a 2-1 road win over the Webster University Gorloks on Wednesday when Maddy Lawton buried a penalty kick goal with 1:34 to play in the game.
  • Natalie Schulte leads the Blue Jays with 49 shots and 27 shots on goal.  Lauren Halamicek has 36 shots with 21 shots on goal. Kelsey Gordon has taken 30 shots and put 14 on goal.
  • Schulte leads the Jays in goals scored with 10 goals which is tied for the top spot in the SLIAC. Gordon has 5 goals and Lauren Halamicek, Madi Lenk and Rachel Nolte have 3 goals each.
  • Schulte leads the team and the SLIAC in points with 25.
  • The Blue Jays are led in assists by Schulte with 5 assists and followed by Rachel Nolte with 4 assists.
  • Blue Jay Freshman Keeper Megan Davidson has had a great freshman season. She is 8-3 with 6 Shutouts. She has given up just 7 goals this season. Her save percentage of .851 is good for second in the SLIAC. Her goals against average of .64 and 7 goals allowed are both good for third among SLIAC keepers.

Taking a look at the Fontbonne University Griffins (11-0, 9-0 SLIAC):

  • The Griffins are coming off of a 2-0 win vs. the Greenville University Panthers this past Wednesday.
  • Krystal Kohenskey leads the Gorloks in shots with 61 shots and 28 shots on goal. Caitlyn Smith has 49 shots and put 23 shots on goal. Molly Kovarik has taken 48 shots with 21 of those being on target.
  • The Griffins are led in scoring by Kovarik who has a SLIAC leading 10 goals. Kohenskey and Smith have 6 each.  
  • Kohenskey leads the team and SLIAC in points with 25.
  • The Griffins are led in assists by Kohenskey with NCAA Division III leading 13.
  • Mary Beers leads the Griffins in goal.  She is 11-0 in her 11 games in goal with 10 shutouts. She has given up one goal(To Westminster's Schulte) for 0.09 goals against average. She has made 15 saves and has a save percentage of .938.  All of those marks lead the SLIAC.
