Westminster Snaps Greenville's Undefeated Record, Wins 10 Straight

The Westminster volleyball team snapped Greenville's undefeated conference record on Tuesday with a 3-0 match win. With the night's win, the Westminster Blue Jays move their winning streak into double digits. The Blue Jays are now 16-5 on the season with a 10 game winning streak and 12-2 in conference play. 

The Blue Jays won the match: 25-21, 25-23, 25-18. 

The first set remained close, but Westminster managed to hold the lead until the 21st point. Greenville tied up the set 13 times before taking the 21-20 lead, but a kill by freshman Micha Frasher knotted the set back up. A service ace by freshman Bridget Ringwald gave the Blue Jays a one point advantage. Frasher put down another kill to give the Blue Jays a 23-21 lead, and Ringwald put an end to the set with two service aces. 

Set two started in the same fashion, but an ace by sophomore Hannah Marshall and two kills from junior Amanda Kiso and Frasher put the Blue Jays up 5-2. Greenville quickly put themselves back in the game with two aces, but the Blue Jays maintained the lead. The Blue Jays went up five, 18-13, with a service ace by Frasher, forcing Greenville to call a timeout. After the timeout, Greenville brought the set within two, 21-19. Kills from Kiso and Frasher put the Blue Jays up 23-19, and another kill from Kiso gave the Blue Jays the 24-21 advantage. Greenville snuck two points in before Westminster called a timeout. Senior Lexi Collier ended the set with a kill, 25-23.

The Blue Jays headed into set three with the 2-0 advantage, ready to end the match. They took the 5-2 advantage with kills from Marshall and Frasher and a block from Kiso and Frasher. Ringwald gave the Blue Jays an even bigger extention as she aced twice to take the 8-3 lead. Kills by Kiso and Marshall gave the Blue Jays a seven point lead, 15-8. Greenville scored three, but the Blue Jays sparked a three point run with kills from freshman Nikki Testerman and Collier and an ace from Ringwald to take the 19-11 lead. The Blue Jays maintained their healthy lead, and two kills from Collier put an end to Greenville's undefeated streak with the 25-18 set three win. 

Ringwald served seven aces in the three set match and posted 10 digs. Collier, Kiso and Testerman all hit over .400, and Marshall led the match with 14 kills. Reeg set the tempo with 43 assists.

The Blue Jays look to continue their winning streak with a conference match at Iowa Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 17. First serve is at 4:30 pm in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
