Blue Jays Take SLIAC Game of the Week With Sweep Over Spalding, Defeat Transy in Five

The Westminster volleyball team went 2-0 on the day with a 3-0 conference sweep of Spalding to win the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Game of the Week and a 3-2 non-conference win over Transylvania. The Blue Jays are now 19-7 on the season and 14-2 in SLIAC play. 

The Blue Jays rolled to a 25-20, 25-14, 25-23 triumph over Spalding University to bring them to 13 consecutive SLIAC wins. 

Sophomore Hannah Marshall led the attack with eight kills while junior setter Kayla Reeg recorded 20 assists. Four Blue Jays had service aces to total nine on the match. Freshman Micha Frasher led the squad with an impressive five aces. Marshall and freshman Bridget Ringwald tallied two each while freshman Nikki Testerman added one. 

Testerman, Ringwald and Reeg combined for 28 digs. Testerman led the trio with 10 while Ringwald and Reeg each posted nine. Reeg had two solo blocks and three block assists on the match. Senior Lexi Collier also had three block assists and added a solo block to the win. 

The Blue Jays went on to defeat non-conference Transylvania in five (25-18, 25-22, 14-25, 22-25, 15-7).

Marshall and Collier tallied 32 kills on the match. Marshall led with 17, and Collier chipped in 15 while hitting .538 on the match. Reeg finished with 43 assists.

Ringwald recorded 18 digs throughout the five sets and added four service aces to the win. Collier finished with three block solos and six block assists. 

The Blue Jays return home on Tuesday, October 27, to play Webster University at 7:00 pm in the Historic Gym.
