Wanyonyi Wins Newcomer of the Year, Five Blue Jays Named to All-Conference Teams

ST. LOUIS – Freshman outside hitter Eryka Wanyonyi (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) has been named the 2019 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year. Wanyonyi finished fifth in the conference with 3.02 kills-per-set and 10th in digs-per-set with 3.74. She is the seventh player in program history to earn the Newcomer of the Year award. In addition to this honor she also earned a place on the All-Conference first team.

Wanyonyi is joined on the first team by Teresa Becker (St. Charles, Mo./Home School) and Ashley Kistaitis (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln North Star). Becker led the SLIAC in assists-per-set with 9.34 and assists with 869. This is the third career All-Conference selection for Becker who made the second team in 2017 and third team in 2018. Kistaitis, who returned after missing last season due to injury, finished second in the SLIAC in kills-per-set (3.98) and total kills (366). She currently has the third most kills (1008) and fourth most service aces (111) in Westminster history. This is her second All-Conference nod after making the first team in 2017.

Junior middle blocker Natalie Needy (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) earned a place on the second team. Needy is second on the team in blocks with 41 and tied for second in service aces with 26. Needy also is third on the team in kills with 166. This is Needy's third career All-Conference selection after being named third team in 2017 and first team in 2018.

Rounding out the All-Conference selections is junior middle blocker Sarah Rivers (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South). This is the second All-Conference nod for Rivers who was named to the second team last season. Rivers leads Westminster with 45 blocks this season and also has 128 kills.

In addition to her first team selection, Becker was named to the All Sportsmanship team for being the Westminster player who best displays the ideals of sportsmanship.
