Blue Jays Fall To Britons At Millikin Tournament

Decatur, IL, 10/15/21 – The Westminster College volleyball team knew the competition in the Millikin University 5 State Classic was going to be high level.  They played the first of their three games in the classic on Friday night when they took on the Albion College Britons from Michigan.  The Britons would prevail in tonight's game in straight sets 3-0 (18-25, 14-25, 18-25). The loss would drop the Blue Jays record to 10-11 overall while they remain 6-1 in the SLIAC.  The win improved the Britons to 14-6.

Haley Menke (O'Fallon, MO / Fort Zumwalt South) led the Blue Jays offense with nine kills while Eryka Wanyonyi (Columbia, MO / Hickman) and Payton Bledsoe (Mexico, MO / Mexico) followed with seven and six kills respectively.  Setter Gretchen Durbala (Burlington, IA / Burlington) recorded 27 assists.  Erica Schrader (Imperial, MO / St. Pius X) led the Jays defense with 14 digs.  Bledsoe would post a solo block and two block assists to lead the Jays at the net.  Heather Ripperger (Hillsboro, MO / Hillsboro) hit two service aces.

The Blue Jays will be back in action tomorrow in their second game of the tournament when they take on the Simpson College Storm.  The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first serve.
