Women's Cross Country Places 3rd at SLIAC Championship, Kuykendall Named Newcomer of the Year

The Westminster women's cross country team placed third out of seven at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championship on Saturday, October 31. The Westminster Blue Jays tallied 62 points in the 6K race, just two points behind the first place team.

Freshman Jessie Kuykendall was named the 2015 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year. The Blue Jays also had four runners on the Second Team All-Conference list: sophomore Taylor Howard, Kuykendall, senior Brier Skogsberg and sophomore Madison Zack

Senior Claire Gibby was named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Skogsberg placed first for the Blue Jays in the 6K, crossing the finish line in 23:47.04 to place ninth. Three Blue Jays finished just after, taking 10th, 11th and 12th place. Kuykendall placed 10th with a 23:53.17 time. Howard placed 11th with a time of 24:01.00, and Zack rounded out the top four with a 12th place finish and a time of 24:05.98.

Sophomore Alex Rauscher scored the final points for the Blue Jays, crossing the finish line in 24:56.26 to place 20th. 

Gibby finished the race in 25:30.44, placing 24th. Freshman Cora Panttiere rounded out the team with a 43rd place finish (29:24.60).

The women's cross country team will now travel to the NCAA Midwest Regional on November 14, 2015 in Rock Island, Ill.
