Blue Jays Drop Final Home Non-Conference Game To #23 Washington University-St.Louis

Fulton, MO 12/30/2022- The Westminster College men's basketball team hosted the nationally ranked Wash U Bears in the final home non-conference game of the calendar year. The Bears showed why they're a national powerhouse, winning the game 86-49. Wash U improves to 8-2 on the year and 6-0 against SLIAC teams. Westminster falls to 1-10 to end its non-conference schedule.

The Bears opened the game with an 11-4 lead and never looked back. Westminster had some flashes but was overwhelmed for most of the game by the Bears' length and depth. The Blue Jays would turn the ball over 20 times, leading to 24 points off turnovers for the Bears. Westminster shot 35% from the field, 30% from three, and 62% from the free throw line. Wash U shot 53% from the field and 50% from three, making 10 three-pointers total in the game. They would also shoot 77% from the line.

Tre Kempker (Eugene, Mo. / Eugene), Lee Verslues (Westphalia, MO / Fatima), and Max Meyers (Washington, MO / St. Francis Borgia) would all have six points in the game. Kempker would have a team-high four rebounds and two blocks.

Westminster heads into the new year looking forward to the start of conference play. They will open the SLIAC portion of their schedule against Blackburn College at home next Wednesday, January 4th. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 PM.
