01/25/2025 Eureka, IL – Westminster College was unable to overcome a tough shooting night, falling 74-55 to Eureka on Saturday. Despite a competitive first half, the Blue Jays struggled to keep pace in the second, leading to the road loss in conference play.
Westminster started strong, staying within striking distance as they trailed 39-33 at halftime. Walker Gohring led the Blue Jays' offensive effort with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists, showing his ability to attack the basket and get to the free-throw line, where he went 7-for-7. Kolton Garner added 11 points, knocking down three three-pointers, while Luke Abeln contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds.
However, the Blue Jays struggled offensively in the second half, scoring just 22 points after the break. Westminster shot 30.2% from the field and 26.3% from three-point range, making it difficult to close the gap as Eureka pulled away. Turnovers also hurt the Blue Jays, as they committed 12 giveaways, allowing Eureka to capitalize in transition.
Despite the loss, Westminster continued to battle on the boards, winning the rebounding battle 45-41, with 17 offensive rebounds leading to second-chance opportunities. Jamile Johnson was active in the paint, grabbing 8 rebounds and recording 2 blocks, while Gavin Hendrix and Ben Eberlin added key rebounds off the bench.
