Blue Jay Defense Smothers Scots In Victory

Fulton, MO, 11/27/21 – The Westminster College women's basketball team wrapped up their three game homestand with a dominating defensive effort that saw them hold their opponent, the Monmouth College Fighting Scots to just 21 first half points on 9-33 shooting (27.2%) in route to a 40-21 halftime lead.  The Blue Jays would keep the pressure on in the second half pushing their lead to 25 points at one point before cruising to a 73-54 non-conference victory over the Fighting Scots.  The win improved the Blue Jays record to 4-3 overall while the Fighting Scots dropped to 3-2 on the season.

The Blue Jays were led in scoring by Reese Arnold (Lonedell, Mo. / Washington) who tossed in 16 points on 6-11 shooting.  Kallee Dowler (Barnesville, Ohio / Barnesville) was also in double figures with 11 thanks to a 3-6 performance from behind the arc.  The Scots held a 46-35 advantage on the boards versus the Blue Jays.  The Jays were led by Shelby Kurtz (Camdenton, MO / Camdenton) with seven rebounds followed by Arnold and Madison Schaeffer (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield) with five rebounds each.  Senior guard Amorette Rodriguez (Los Angeles, California / Whittier) led the Jays as she handed out three assists on the night.  Kurtz recorded three steals to lead the Blue Jays. 

The Blue Jays will be back in action next Saturday December the 4th on the road. The Blue Jays will travel to take on the currently undefeated Wartburg College Knights (4-0).  The Knights are currently ranked #10 in the nation in the most recent D3Hoops.com national top 25 poll. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off in Waverly, IA.
