FULTON, Mo. - Gracie Koonce toppled four separate records on Westminster women's soccer senior day, earning a 10-0 win over Blackburn. Sarah Cradick earned the career record for shutouts with 10.
Westminster improves to 10-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
"Today's performance was very special for our program," said Westminster Head Coach Wendy Sanchez. "We finished strong with another great win to end the season. We had multiple players on the scoreboard along with Sarah and Gracie surpassing multiple records."
Koonce accounted for five of the 10 Blue Jays goals, adding in one assist.
The senior's career day gave her 42 goals and 107 points for her career, both new Westminster records. Her five goals and 11 points are both gameday records at Westminster.
"The selflessness of the team showed in our win today," said Sanchez. "Along with Gracie breaking those records, today embodioes what these ladies are truly capable of."
The gameday goals record was previously held by five different players from 1995 through 2017 who had scored four. Koonce's 11 points breaks a gameday record from 1998 and 1999. Danielle Shannon, who was inducted into the Westminster Hall of Fame in 2017, previously held the career goals record of 41, set from 2004-06. Finally, the career points record was set by Keri Kuhn from 1999-2002 at 103.
Heidi Gundy, Isabel Peng, Natalie Schulte, and Kate Ponder each added goals in the game as well, including two from Ponder.
The shutout was the 10th this season from Westminster and the 10th for Sarah Cradick, who logged all 90 minutes in goal. The previous record in shutouts in a season was nine, held by Katie Zagar since 1997.
Along with the win, the Blue Jays took time to honor its three seniors prior to the game, Gundy, Koonce, and Katherine Hammond.
"Our seniors have been vital in our success," said Sanchez. "They've put in the hard work, supported each other while times got tough while pushing each other to bring out the best in one another. That attitude has motivated the team to compete and rise to any challenege."
The Blue Jays head into the SLIAC Tournament, starting next Wednesday, Oct. 31 at Fontbonne. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
