Houston Shatters Four Records In Season Opener

Freshman Anna Houston shattered four records at the Westminster women's track and field opening meet of the 2015 outdoor season. The Westminster Blue Jays placed fifth out of eight teams at the Culver-Stockton Wildcat Open with a total of 49 points and one first place finish.

In her first collegiate meet, Houston reset the Westminster modern day long jump, triple jump, high jump and 100-meter hurdles records and earned the team 24 points. She placed first in the triple jump with a 10.36-meter jump and second in the high jump with a 1.34-meter jump. In the long jump, she placed third with 5.01-meters, and she placed fourth in the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.37.

Junior Brier Skogsberg earned eight points for the Blue Jays with her second place finish in the 5000-meter run. She finished with a time of 19:39.48.

Freshman Maria Rains placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.13, earning the team four points.

Rains and senior Tanisha Terrell each ran the 100-meter dash. Rains qualified for the finals with her fifth place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 13.07. She placed eighth in the finals with a 13.45 time. Terrell placed sixth in the preliminaries with a time of 13.11.

Terrell and freshman Taylor Howard rounded out the Blue Jay squad in the 200-meter dash. Terrell placed sixth, earning the final Blue Jay point with her 27.48 time. Howard placed 14th with a time of 28.77.

The Blue Jays next participate in a two day invitational at Washington University-St. Louis on Friday-Saturday, March 27-28.
