Houston Breaks Three Records At Darrel Gourley Open

Freshman Anna Houston continues to rewrite the record books with three more records broken at the William Jewell Darrel Gourley Open on Saturday, April 11. The Westminster Blue Jays placed 13th out of 20 with 18.5 points. 

Houston competed in five events throughout out the day with three top four finishes and broke the Westminster modern day high jump, triple jump and pole vault records. Houston placed third in the high jump with her 1.58-meter jump. She placed fourth in the triple jump and the 100-meter hurdles with a 10.77-meter jump and a 15.71 run. She became the second Blue Jay to compete in the pole vault in modern day history. She placed 10th with a 2.61-meter jump. To round out her day, Houston tied for sixth in the long jump with a 4.87-meter jump. 

Senior Danielle Smulczenski and freshman Maria Rains both competed in the 400-meter dash. Smulczenski placed 11th with a 1:02.41 time, and Rains finished right after, placing 12th in 1:03.13 seconds. 

Rains also placed 20th in the 200-meter dash with a 27.03 time and 29th in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 13.20 seconds. 

Smulczenski also competed in the discus and the javelin at the meet. She placed 15th in the javelin with a 25.52-meter throw and 34th in the discus with a 21.64-meter throw. 

The Blue Jays next participate in the Dewey Allgood Invitational hosted by Missouri S&T on Saturday, April 18.
