
03/22/2025 Greenville, IL- Westminster College's baseball team kicked off their conference play with a dominant doubleheader sweep over Greenville University. The Blue Jays displayed offensive firepower and solid pitching throughout both games, securing a 13-2 win in the first game and a 9-4 win in the second. These wins mark an impressive start to their conference season, improving their record to 9-10 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Game 1: Westminster 13, Greenville 2
Westminster College's baseball team started their doubleheader in dominant fashion with a 13-2 victory over Greenville. The Blue Jays wasted no time getting on the board, with Donovan Bohler delivering a two-RBI single in the first inning, bringing in Domenic Nordmann and Troy Romero to give Westminster an early 2-0 lead. Greenville responded with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Blue Jays continued their offensive onslaught.
Beno Ballard added a solo home run in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 3-1, and Keli'i Price followed with an RBI single that scored Aden Pecka, making it 4-1. Greenville managed just one more run in the fourth, but Westminster put the game out of reach with a six-run seventh inning. Price, Romero, and William Crabtree each had RBIs in the frame, and Braden Eye added a two-RBI hit, pushing the score to 13-2.
On the mound, Charlie Schweppe was excellent, going seven innings and allowing just two runs on five hits. He struck out seven batters and walked only one. The defense supported him well, including a double play from Romero and Ballard to help extinguish any Greenville threats.
The Blue Jays' offense was led by Price, who finished with four hits and three RBIs, while Ballard's home run and two RBIs highlighted his performance. Romero and Bohler also drove in runs as part of a well-balanced attack.
Game 2: Westminster 9, Greenville 4
In the second game of the doubleheader, Westminster followed up their dominant first game with a 9-4 win over Greenville. The Blue Jays continued their hot streak from the start, scoring four runs in the second inning. Braden Eye's single scored Pecka, and an RBI walk by Domenic Nordmann brought in Crabtree. Troy Romero added two RBIs with a single, pushing the lead to 4-0.
Greenville fought back in the third and fifth innings, scoring one run in the third and two more in the fifth, cutting Westminster's lead to 4-3. However, the Blue Jays responded in the sixth with a series of timely hits. Crabtree's single brought in Pecka and Ballard, and Price's two-RBI single increased the lead to 8-3. A throwing error allowed Sam Callaway to reach base and bring in another unearned run, making it 9-3.
Greenville hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, trimming the deficit to 8-4, but the Blue Jays' pitching staff shut down the Panthers the rest of the way. In the ninth, Ballard's RBI single scored William Ashmore, pushing the lead to 9-4.
Jack Page earned the win after five solid innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits. The bullpen did their part, with contributions from TJ Grassl, Salvador Moncada, Richard Decola, and Joshua Escobedo, who combined for four innings of one-run ball.
Price and Ballard each had two hits and two RBIs in the game, while Romero and Eye each drove in runs. The Blue Jays' pitching staff kept Greenville in check throughout the game, and their offense once again showed depth and consistency. With the win, Westminster improved to 9-10 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
