Westminster Baseball Falls to Washington University 13-3

03/13/2025 St. Louis, MO- On March 12, 2025, Westminster College faced a tough matchup against Washington University, suffering a 13-3 loss. The game started with some promise for the Blue Jays, who took a 3-1 lead after the second inning. Troy Romero doubled to left center, bringing in Keli'i Price, and an error allowed Aden Pecka to score, followed by a single from Price to drive in another run. However, Washington University quickly responded in the bottom of the first, and the game took a decisive turn as the Bears began to take control.

Washington University chipped away at Westminster's lead with a run in the fourth inning, and then exploded in the fifth, scoring five runs. The big blows came from Cooper Greene's two-RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Anthony Equale. Wild pitches also helped extend the lead, with the Bears capitalizing on multiple miscues by the Blue Jays.

In the seventh inning, Washington University continued their dominant offensive performance, adding six more runs, including a two-run home run by Noah Reichman. Westminster struggled to recover, managing only six hits and three runs, with Troy Romero leading the offense with two hits and an RBI.

Westminster's pitching staff was challenged throughout the game. Derek Archer started and pitched four innings, allowing two runs. The bullpen, including Colyn Wright, Tayden Harlow, Hayden Sanborn, Brett Cira, Cade Becker, and Aydn Bradke, combined to give up 11 more runs. In total, the Blue Jays allowed 17 hits, with Washington University's offense relentlessly driving up the score.

Despite the loss, Westminster had its moments early on, but Washington University's offensive explosion in the later innings proved too much to overcome. The Blue Jays will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue to adjust to tougher competition.
