Blue Jays Lose Series Against Transylvania

03/09/2025 Lexington, KY- Westminster traveled to Lexington for a three-game series on March 8th and 9th. Despite some strong individual performances, the Blue Jays were unable to come away with a win, falling 8–2 and 16–6 on Saturday before dropping the Sunday finale 12–2. Below is a breakdown of each contest.

Game 1: Transylvania 8, Westminster 2

Westminster kicked off the weekend series with a promising start when Keliʻi Price doubled in an unearned run in the top of the first inning. Price ultimately led the offensive effort, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. However, the Blue Jays' early advantage was short-lived as the host offense capitalized on a few key opportunities in the middle frames. A five-run fifth proved decisive, pushing Westminster into a 7-run deficit. Pitcher Jack Page (1–2) went 4.0 innings, surrendering five earned runs while striking out four. Although the Blue Jays scratched across another run late, they couldn't overcome the home team's balanced attack.

Game 2: Host Team 16, Westminster 6 (7 innings)

In Saturday's second game, Westminster again got on the board first, only to see the hosts surge ahead to a 6–1 lead by the end of the third inning. The Blue Jays rallied in the fourth, plating four runs behind RBI hits from Salvador Moncada and Keliʻi Price, narrowing the gap to 6–5 and momentarily shifting momentum. Price (3-for-4) paced the lineup with two RBI, while Sam Alles went 2-for-3, adding another run driven in.

Despite Westminster's efforts, a single run in the home half of the fourth and a massive eight-run sixth inning by the opposition turned the tide for good. The Blue Jays' pitchers, including starter Derek Archer and relievers Brayden Knittel, TJ Grassl, and Blake Althuisius, struggled to contain the host offense's barrage. Ultimately, the game ended after seven innings via the run rule, 16–6.

Game 3: Host Team 12, Westminster 2 (8 innings)

Sunday's finale followed a similar pattern, with Westminster jumping ahead early thanks to a two-RBI single by Cameron Schlegl in the top of the first. Schlegl delivered a standout performance, finishing 4-for-4 with two doubles. Though starter Charlie Schweppe (5.0 IP, 6 ER, 6 K) navigated the first few innings effectively, the score was knotted at 2–2 by the fourth.

The Blue Jays then surrendered four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings as the host lineup once again found success. Late in the game, Westminster attempted to stem the tide with relief appearances by Richard Decola and Salvador Moncada, but two additional runs in the eighth sealed a 12–2 defeat. Schlegl's perfect day at the plate remained a bright spot, underscoring Westminster's ability to generate offense in spurts despite the loss.
