11/24/2024 St. Louis, MO- The Westminster men's basketball team faced a tough test against Centre College on Saturday, falling 100-64 at Grant Gym. Despite moments of strong individual play, the Blue Jays were unable to keep pace with Centre's efficient offense and relentless defensive pressure.
Senior forward Ben Eberlin led Westminster with 12 points, shooting 4-7 from the field and 4-5 from the free-throw line, while adding 2 rebounds. Junior forward Brysan Jeffries showed promise, contributing 6 points on a perfect 2-2 shooting from beyond the arc. Guard Walker Gohring also played a key role, scoring 7 points and dishing out 4 assists, helping Westminster generate offense against a tough defensive opponent.
The Blue Jays continued to showcase strong free-throw shooting, converting 78.3% of their attempts (18-23). Westminster also saw contributions from its bench, with Jacob Becker providing energy and efficiency, scoring 4 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in just 8 minutes of play. Sean LaRose added 6 points, going 4-4 from the free throw line.
However, Westminster struggled to find consistency from the field, shooting 34.5% overall and just 22.2% from three-point range. Turnovers continued to be an issue, as the team gave the ball away 15 times, limiting their opportunities to close the gap. On the boards, Westminster was outrebounded 42-31, making it difficult to generate second-chance opportunities.
Despite the loss, Westminster showed flashes of potential from its young roster. The Blue Jays will look to build on these moments as they continue their season, striving for their first victory. Westminster will return to action on November 26, against Webster University in Webster Groves, MO. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30PM.
