02/01/2025 Batesville, AR- Westminster College faced a tough challenge on the road Saturday, falling 102-67 to Lyon in conference play. The Blue Jays were unable to contain Lyon's efficient shooting, as the home team knocked down 57.1% of their three-pointers and 52.6% from the field, making it difficult for Westminster to keep pace.
Lyon set the tone early, racing out to a 60-33 halftime lead, and Westminster was unable to recover despite a stronger second half. Kolton Garner led the Blue Jays with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Sean LaRose provided a spark off the bench, scoring 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including three three-pointers. Gavin Hendrix added 12 points and 5 rebounds, continuing to be an inside presence for Westminster.
Despite Lyon's offensive efficiency, Westminster moved the ball well, finishing with 21 assists as a team. Walker Gohring dished out 7 assists to go along with 7 points and 6 rebounds, showing his ability to facilitate the offense. However, the Blue Jays struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 25.0% (6-of-24), while Lyon's three-point shooting proved to be a key difference in the game.
Westminster battled on the boards, grabbing 36 rebounds, but Lyon controlled the pace and capitalized on turnovers, scoring efficiently in transition. The Blue Jays will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue SLIAC play.
