10/18/2024 Fulton, MO- On Thursday night, Westminster College faced off against Lyon College in a match up that ended with the Blue Jays falling 3-1 at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium. The Blue Jays now stand at 2-9-2 and 1-2-2 in the conference. 

The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams unable to find the back of the net, resulting in a scoreless draw at halftime. Westminster created several opportunities, totaling nine shots, but they couldn't convert as Lyon's goalkeeper, made four crucial saves. 

The second half opened with a breakthrough for Westminster, as Braedon Cairer scored an unassisted goal just minutes into the period, putting the Blue Jays ahead 1-0 in the 50th minute. However, Lyon quickly responded, leveling the score in the 64th minute when  

The Scots struck again in the 77th minute, giving Lyon a 2-1 lead. Just a few minutes later, they added to the tally, solidifying the victory for Lyon at 3-1. 

Despite the final score, Westminster displayed commendable effort, taking a total of 15 shots with seven on target. Toby Hughes, the Blue Jays' goalkeeper, had a busy night, making five saves to keep his team competitive throughout the match. 

The match was marked by a physical style of play, with Lyon accumulating 13 fouls compared to Westminster's five. 

The Blue Jays will look to regroup and learn from this tough loss as they prepare for their next match against Eureka College at home on October 19, hoping to bounce back and secure a crucial win in conference play.
