Westminster Ties Webster, Advances to Conference Tournament

10/31/2024 Fulton, MO- Westminster College's men's soccer team concluded their regular season with a 1-1 draw against Webster University at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium on Wednesday night. This result secured the Blue Jays the number six seed in the SLIAC conference standings, allowing them to advance to the conference tournament. 

Webster struck first in the 11th minute, giving the Gorloks an early lead. Despite the early setback, Westminster remained focused and worked to regain control throughout the first half. The Blue Jays struggled to generate significant offensive opportunities, recording no shots in the first half as Webster applied consistent pressure. 

The second half saw Westminster's offense come alive. In the 56th minute, Niklas Olsson equalized the match by converting a penalty kick after a foul in the box, marking his fourth goal of the season.  

Despite Webster's attempts to regain the lead, Westminster's defense held firm, with goalkeeper Toby Hughes making five crucial saves against Webster's 15 total shots. 

The game concluded with a 1-1 draw, reflecting the determination of both teams. With this result, Westminster finished the regular season with a record of 3-9-4 and 2-2-4 in conference play. The Blue Jays will move on to the conference tournament, traveling to Webster Groves to face the number three seed, Webster University, once again, on Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 PM.
