Westminster Softball Ties For Second in SLIAC Poll

ST. LOUIS – Westminster softball was predicted to place second in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, based on a poll from the league's head coaches. The Blue Jays received a first-place vote and tied Spalding with 63 points in the poll. Eureka was picked as the favorite with 71 points and six first-place votes.

Westminster returns five All-Conference selections from last season, including a trio of Second Team selections in Mikala Guthrie, Lauren Huskey and Mackenzie Myers.

Guthrie returns after finishing third in the SLIAC in batting average (.493) and on-base percentage (.544). In addition to earning SLIAC All-Conference accolades Guthrie was a Fastpitch News All-American Honorable Mention and Second Team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region.

Huskey hit .380 last season and finished tied for third on the team with 16 RBI. Myers, a Third Team pick in 2017 and 2018, hit .319 last season with two home runs and 122 RBI.

Westminster also returns a pair of Third Team picks in Taylor White and Madison Ingram. White stole a team-leader 12 bases last season and led the league with five triples. Ingram posted a 6-6 record on the mound with seven complete games. Her 73 strikeouts were good for third in the SLIAC

Also returning to the pitching staff are Katie Price and Bailee Zemianek, who both made 14 appearances on the mound last season.

The Blue Jays open their season at home on February 22 with a doubleheader against William Woods.
