Westminster Falls to Culver-Stockton in Four Sets
Despite a strong effort, Westminster men's volleyball came up short in a four-set battle against Culver-Stockton (27-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-21). The Blue Jays, now 11-11 on the season, put up a fight in each frame but were unable to force a decisive fifth set.
Derrick Turner paced the offense with 12 kills, while Lucas Brown followed closely with 11 kills and two service aces. Khalil Peterson contributed eight kills on an efficient .300 hitting percentage, and Aidan Ortmann added eight kills and 16 digs to lead the team defensively.
Setter Jake Schawo-McAlister dished out 43 assists and chipped in three kills, six digs, and an ace. Libero Ryan Rhodes anchored the defense with a team-high 15 digs, while Luke Rohrbach recorded two solo blocks and four block assists at the net.
Westminster responded well after dropping a tight first set, controlling the second with a 25-17 win. However, Culver-Stockton edged out the Blue Jays in the final two sets, capitalizing on key points down the stretch.
The Blue Jays will look to bounce back on Saturday, March 8, when they face Bryant & Stratton College - Buffalo and Mount St. Joseph in a crucial doubleheader.
