StClair Sets School Shot Put Record at SLIAC Championships

ELSAH, Ill. – The Westminster men's and women's track and field teams competed in the inaugural St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championship on Saturday. The Blue Jays received top performances from throwers Haleigh StClair and Ray Samuels. 

StClair placed seventh in the women's shot put and set a new modern school record with a distance of 9.29 meters. Her new mark edges out her own record of 9.27 achieved earlier this season.

Samuels placed fifth in the shot put with a new personal best of 11.41 meters to earn two points for the men's team.

DeAndre White and Geoffery Giles each registered personal records in the shot put and placed eighth and ninth respectively. White also placed ninth in the weight throw while Samuels finished 10th with a new personal best of 9.89 meters.

Nik Franklin placed eighth in the long jump and set a new personal best in the triple jump, placing ninth with a mark of 10.67 meters.

Jacob Marshall also set personal bests in the 3000 meters (11:26.60) and the mile run (5:35.48).

Emily Nelson also competed for the women's team and placed 14th in shot put. 

This event concludes the indoor season for both teams. The Blue Jays will begin the outdoor season on March 21st at the Central Methodist Open in Fayette, Mo.
