WINTER HAVEN, Fl. - Westminster baseball started their spring break trip off by splitting with Centre and earning a walkoff win over Ramapo.
Centre started the season off ranked in the top 30 while Ramapo was a 35 win team a season ago as the Blue Jays earn two quality wins against top opponents.
In the first game of the trip against Centre, Ian Cassidy took the win, pitching the complete seven innings and giving up just one run on four hits.
All three of the Westminster runs came in the third inning. Hayden Hirschvogel knocked in two runs on an RBI single followed by an RBI single from Will Stonecipher.
The Blue Jays hung with the Colonels in game two of the day, but eventually fell 3-2 after allowing a three-run fifth inning. Both runs were scored on an RBI single from Zach Stiles.
In the third game of the trip, Westminster faced Ramapo and earned the win in an 11-inning thriller.
Westminster kicked off the game in the first with a two-run homer from Brandon Beeler to take an immediate 2-0 lead. The Roadrunners tied the game with a run in the second and third to match the two runs from Westminster after three innings.
Both teams remained scoreless until the sixth inning when Rob Shifrin reached home on an error to take the 3-2 lead. Ramapo took the lead right back with two runs in the top of the seventh.
In the bottom of the inning, the Blue Jays yet again took back the lead with two runs. Stonecipher put a ball in play with the bases loaded and reach first on a fielder's choice, but it was enough to score both Beeler and Stiles to take back the lead 5-4 in the seventh.
Ramapo tied the game at five apiece in the ninth to force extra innings, but a single from Hirschvogel to score Stiles sealed the walkoff victory for the Blue Jays.
Alex Dickneite started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits, while Braden Beasley took the win after pitching the final two innings of the game.
The Blue Jays continue the second half of their spring break trip Wednesday with a single game against St. Joeseph's (Brooklyn) and a doubleheader against Rutgers-Camden on Friday before heading back to Fulton.
