FULTON, Mo. - Westminster baseball earned a doubleheader sweep over Principia to stay in the SLIAC postseason race.
The Blue Jays improve to 11-7 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 15-12 overall.
In game one, the Panthers struck first on a Blue Jay error in the second, but Westminster answered with a solo home run from Branden Beeler in the third.
The Panthers answered with a two-run double in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Westminster tied the game at three runs in the fifth, when Zach Eisenreich scored on a wild pitch and Will Stonecipher hit a single to left to score Beeler.
Westminster took the lead in the sixth on a three-run home run from Ryan Clavin, eventually earning the 6-4 win.
Andrew Boessen took the win on the mound, pitching six innings and giving up four runs on four hits. Ethan Rackers earned the save.
In game two, Westminster remained hot at the plate, scoring runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to start the game off.
Devin Masek started the scoring with a single up the middle to score Ryan Klimkiewicz in the second. In the third, Stonecipher hit a two-run home run, scoring Beeler, to make the score 3-0. Klimkiewicz added an RBI groundout in the inning to make the score 4-0 after three innings.
In the fourth, Beeler added the fifth Blue Jay run with an RBI double to score Masek.
The Panthers finally got on the board with an RBI walk in the fourth.
After a quiet fifth and sixth innings from Westminster, Clavin added his second home run of the day with a solo shot to right field, making the score 6-1.
Principia attempted to put together a rally in the seventh, scoring four runs to make the score 6-5 after seven innings, but Clavin added an RBI double and Hayden Hirschvogel knocked in a run from a sacrifice fly in the ninth to give the Blue Jays the 8-5 win.
Alex Dickneite earned the win, pitching six innings and giving up one run on two hits. Ian Cassidy earned the save in the final inning.
The Blue Jays finish the series with Eureka in a rubber match at Saucier Field Tuesday at 3 p.m.
