Fulton, Mo., July 16, 2021 – The Westminster College Blue Jay football team announced its schedule to the world today. After a pandemic delayed and shortened season in 2020, the Blue Jays and head coach John Welty are looking for a return to normal this coming Fall. "Last season was a challenging one to say the least." said Welty. "The guys and our staff made the best of it. I applaud their resolve and adaptability but, we are all looking forward to this coming year and what we hope is a more normal season." The 2020 season saw the Jays go 2-1 and win the UMAC South Division Championship.
The 2021 season kicks off on September 4th when the Blue Jays will welcome the Knox College Prairie Fire to Kent and Judith Mueller Stadium for a 2:00 p.m. kick off. Conference play will begin on October 2nd when the Blue Jays will hit the road to Minnesota to take on the Cougars of Minnesota Morris University at 12:00 p.m. It will be the first of six conference games that will decide the 2021 UMAC Champion and the conference's bid to the 2021 NCAA Division III Football Playoff.
The Blue Jays will play nine games overall this season. Five of those games will be on the home turf and four will be on the road. The return to a full schedule was challenging coming off the pandemic year and a tenth game opponent was not found. A full ten game schedule will return in 2022.
Here are some other key weekends for the Blue Jays in 2021. September 25th the Rhodes College Lynx will be in town for a 1:00 p.m. kick off on Family Weekend. October 30th will be the annual Homecoming Game when the Blue Jays host conference newcomer Finlandia University for a 12:00 p.m. start. The Blue Jays will celebrate Senior Day on November 6th as they take on the two-time defending UMAC conference champion Martin Luther College at 12:00 p.m.
