Westminster Men's Tennis opened its season on Thursday with a home dual match against Bethel College.
The Threshers spoiled the Blue Jays' debut by winning the dual by a final score of 8-1.
In singles, the matches between the teams' top two seeds were very tight. The matchup of number 1's resulted in Bethel's Dylan Miera defeating the Blue Jays' Adam Fuchs in a three-set thriller by a score of 6-7(3-7), 6-3, 10-5. Pete Hasenmueller (W) and Gabe Johnson (B) represented each team's number 2 player, resulting in Hasenmueller earning the Blue Jays' sole victory on the day by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 10-6.
In doubles, Fuchs and Hasenmueller will be teaming up this season and faced Bethel's Ryan LaCombe and Dylan Miera in today's opener, falling by a score of 8-3. Two freshmen, Josh Udinyiwe and Phillip Udinyiwe, will also be representing the Blue Jays in doubles this season. Today, they also fell in their opening match to the team of Jordan Singh and Gabe Johnson by a score of 8-3.
Westminster continues its season next Friday on the road at STLCP at 3.00pm.
