Blue Jays Opened Season Against Owls

Fulton, Mo 2/10/2024- The Westminster College softball team traveled up Westminster Avenue to start their season against the William Woods Owls for a Friday afternoon doubleheader to start the season. The Owls would win game one, 12-4 and then won game two, 6-0. William Woods improved to 3-2 on the season and Westminster starts their season 0-2.  

Game One: Box Score 

The Blue Jays would take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first after Emily Esquivel scored from third on a wild pitch after hitting a leadoff single. Raigan McKee hit a sacrifice fly to score Kelsey Logan. The Owls would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to tie the game 2-2. William Woods would score two more runs in the bottom of the second to make it 4-2. Tatum Bradshaw hit a single to score Eva Gannon to make it 4-3 in the top of the third.  

The Owls would score 3 runs in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 7-3. Westminster would score their final run of the game Westminster scored a run in the top of the fourth after playing some small ball to get Emily Esquivel to third after reaching on another single. Raigen McKee would hit a rbi single to left-center field to score Esquivel to make 7-4. Woods would score 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth to win the game 12-4.  

Game Two: Box Score 

The Owls would hold the Blue Jays to only two hits in game two, those came off the bats of Madelynn Kordik and freshman Lakyn Breesawitz got her first collegiate hit. Fellow freshman Ellie Bedsworth got her first career start on the mound for the Blue Jays. She would pitch 4 innings, giving up 5 runs on five hits. The Owls would score four runs in the bottom of the 2nd, then one run in the bottom of the 4th and 5th innings to win the game 6-0.  

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday, February 17th when they travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on Hendrix College. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
