4/13/2025 Fulton, MO - The Westminster softball team opened their road doubleheader against Lyon College with an impressive shutout victory but couldn't maintain the momentum, falling in a high-scoring Game 2 to settle for the split.

In Game 1, Peityn Thomas delivered a standout performance in the circle to guide the Blue Jays to a 4-0 victory. She threw a complete game, scattering five hits over seven scoreless innings while striking out five and walking four. Kendall Weber's first-inning single set the tone, and she later came around to score on a Taylor Engelmeyer RBI double. In the third, Destiny Rosario walked and advanced on a Weber single before scoring on an Engelmeyer sacrifice fly. Chloe Ferguson then added a two-run home run in the seventh, being her second hit of the game. Ellie Bedsworth also continued her hot streak with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

Game 2 flipped the script, as Lyon came out swinging and overwhelmed Westminster early, handing the Blue Jays a 15-6 loss in five innings. Lyon posted 10 runs in the first three innings and finished with 15 hits overall. Despite the rough start, Westminster showed fight in the fourth and fifth innings. Paige Cruzan drew a walk and later scored on a two-RBI double by Bedsworth in the fourth. Madison Plybon added a two-run homer to cap off the rally. In the fifth, Cruzan doubled home Destiny Rosario, and Engelmeyer followed with an RBI single. However, the early deficit proved too steep to overcome.

The Blue Jays now return to action on Wednesday, April 16, traveling to Greenville for another conference doubleheader.
