CARLINVILLE, Ill. - Westminster women's basketball earned their seventh SLIAC win against Blackburn as five players scored in double-figures.

Westminster improves to 9-13 with the win and 7-7 in the conference. 

"It's always good to get a road win," said Westminster Head Coach Tracey Braden. 

The Beavers jumped out to an early lead 9-5 lead in the first five minutes, but a 9-0 run to end the quarter for the Blue Jays put Westminster back on top, and they never looked back. 

Westminster tried to pull ahead in the second quarter but Blackburn managed to keep the score close. Andrea Zalis scored seven of her 16 points in the second quarter to keep the Blue Jays on top. 

The Beavers pulled back within three points to start the second half, but after a three-pointer from Kelsey Ray and a timeout, the Blue Jays pulled together for a 12-4 run to end the quarter. 

"It took us awhile to get going and put a couple of runs together," said Braden. "We had much better energy in the second half."

Westminster pulled off it's highest scoring effort of the game in the final quarter with 21 points to Blackburn's eight, including six points apiece for Zalis and Bailey Mitchell to end the game 69-44. 

"I really like the progress we made on defense tonight, but we can't turn the ball over against Iowa Wesleyan like we did tonight," said Braden.

Zalis and Mirrakohl Johnson led the team with 16 points apiece, both tallying double-doubles with 11 and 12 boards, respectively. Zalis was just three assists away from a triple-double, totaling seven. Ray recorded 11 points while Mikalyn Callahan and Ali Perry each added 10. 

The Blue Jays stay on the road to face Iowa Wesleyan Saturday at 1 p.m.
