Wisconsin-Whitewater Defeats Westminster Men's Soccer

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Wisconsin-Whitewater handed Westminster men's soccer its second loss of the season with a 3-0 victory.

Westminster falls to 4-2 while Wisconsin-Whitewater improves to 2-1-2.

"We had a really tough matchup tonight," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "We struggled to match their intensity in the first half and they capitalized on their set piece opportunities."

The Warhawks added their first goal early in the match in the third minute. The goal resulted from a corner kick and was scored by Deklan Corbett.

In the 38th minute, the Warhawks added a second goal to go into the half 2-0. After Michael Sam vaulted the ball towards the net on a throw-in, Justin Stanko headed the ball in for the goal.

Wisconsin-Whitewater added its third goal in the 48th minute on a rebound from Chris Roche.

"I thought we played much better in the second half," said Galla. "It's always tough playing a national powerhouse ike Whitewater but we are still heading in the right direction. I know that we will learn and grow as a team from this situation."

The Blue Jays had ample opportunity to score, including two back-to-back shots from David Immanuel late in the second half. One was blocked on a diving save from the goalie while the other sailed over the net. Josh Jaycox had a similar opportunity late in the second half, but his shot on a breakaway was saved by Chris Lucatorto in goal for the Warhawks.

Jaycox, Immanuel, and Daniel Barone each recorded two shots. Westminster tallied nine shots to Wisconsin-Whitewater's six.

Ben Chesher played all 90 minutes for the Blue Jays and made two stops.

The Blue Jays continue their homestand with a SLIAC matchup against Principia Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
