Westminster Men's Soccer Overwhelms Principia 5-1

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster men's soccer opened up SLIAC play with a dominating performance in a 5-1 win over Principia.

Westminster improves to 5-2 and 1-0 in the SLIAC. 

The Blue Jays opened the game up with explosive offense, scoring two goals in under 10 minutes. 

Both goals were scored by Drake Trease and assisted by Daniel Barone on through balls that Trease netted low to the far post. The goals were the fifth and sixth of the season for Trease.

In the 35th minute for the final goal of the half, Josh Jaycox connected on a pass to David Immanuel across the net. The goal was Immanuel's fourth of the season. 

Dustin Seibolt continued the offensive production for the Blue Jays in the second half by netting a cross from Kyle Collins past the goalie in the middle of the goal. Collins scored a goal of his own under a minute later on a pass from Tanner Touslee to make the score 5-0 in favor of Westminster. 

Principia didn't let themselves get blanked, as a goal from Carson Hussey made the score 5-1 to close out the game. 

Trease led the team in shots with eight including four on goal. Westminster dominated the offensive play with 32 shots to Principia's nine. Ben Chesher made one save and played all 90 minutes in goal for the Blue Jays. 

"I thought this was our best performance of the season," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "We brought great energy from the start, moved the ball quickly in the attack, and finished some well-created opportunities. Principia is a good side for us to play as well as we did, and today is a great step in the right direction." 

Westminster travels to play Spalding Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
