Haddox Records First Triple-Double In 75-41 Victory Over Eureka

Junior Mackenzie Haddox recorded her first career triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in Saturday's 75-41 victory over Eureka College. The win brings the Westminster Blue Jays  to 5-1 in conference and 6-4 overall. 

The Blue Jays and the Eureka Red Devils stayed on pace with each other until sophomore Andrea Zalis knocked down a three-pointer seven minutes into the game to spark a 10-0 run. The Red Devils put the game back within two points, but Zalis put in another three to start a 6-0 run to take the 25-17 lead. 

In the final minute of the first half, juniors Sadie Theroff and Kasey Gatson each hit a three-pointer to take the Blue Jays into halftime with a 40-26 lead over Eureka.

The Blue Jays started the first three and a half minutes of the second half with a 13-0 run to put them up by 27 points. Four minutes into the half, Eureka finally found the net off a three-pointer. They scored five more before Zalis drained a three to put the Blue Jays back up by 22 points with 12 minutes remaining in the game. 

Senior Danielle Smulczenski started another 10-0 Blue Jay run with a short jump shot in the paint. Zalis scored the final points of the run with a fast break layup with 2:46 remaining in the game. 

Freshman Payton Beeler scored the final four points of the game, hitting both shots in the paint in the remaining minute of the game to take the 75-41 win over Eureka.

Zalis shot 7-9 from the three-point line and went 11-13 from the field to record 31 points on the afternoon. sophomore Krista Armontrout pulled down 10 rebounds, and Gatson recorded 10 points.

The Blue Jays travel to Mount Pleasant, Iowa on Wednesday to face Iowa Wesleyan at 6:00 p.m.
