The Westminster women's basketball team extended their winning streak to five games with Wednesday's 67-43 win over Iowa Wesleyan. The Westminster Blue Jays now sit second in the conference with a 6-1 SLIAC record and a 7-4 overall record.

"It's nice to come out with a win against another top team in the conference," stated sophomore guard Andrea Zalis. The Iowa Wesleyan Tigers sit in third place in the SLIAC after Wednesday's game.

Junior Sadie Theroff hit a three-pointer just 13 seconds into the game to take a 3-0 lead. Zalis drained a three, followed by a jump shot by sophomore Krista Armontrout, giving the Blue Jays an 8-2 lead.

Theroff drained her second three-pointer with 11:49 on the clock to start a 13-0 run for the Blue Jays over the next six minutes. The Tigers answered back with an 11-0 run in the following three minutes.

The Blue Jays closed out the half with an 11-0 run of their own, with six points coming from junior Kasey Gatson to give the Blue Jays the 34-17 lead heading into halftime.

The Blue Jays took three minutes to find the net coming into the second half, but Theroff's jumper started another 13-0 run for the Blue Jays to give them the 49-20 lead with 11:46 remaining in the game.

Sophomore Payton Gruber drained two three pointers off assists from junior Mackenzie Haddox to give the Blue Jays a 33-point lead. The remaining 8:18 was a back-and-forth game, but the Blue Jays maintained their lead and came out with the 67-43 win.

"This was a good team win for us," commented assistant coach Kristen Warncke. "Everyone played really well and we played well together."

Zalis led the Blue Jays with 15 points, and Theroff and Gruber added 11 points each. Armontrout and Haddox led the boards with eight each, and Haddox had six assists.

The Blue Jays will host Spalding University, the number one seed in the SLIAC with an 8-0 record, on Saturday, January 17, at 1:00 p.m. Live statistics and video can be found here
