Blue Jays Move To Eight Game Streak With 75-42 Win Over Central Christian

The Westminster women's basketball team continues to be an unstoppable force with a 75-42 win over Central Christian College of the Bible on Thursday. Their eighth straight win brings the Westminster Blue Jays to 15-5 on the season.

"I'm proud of the ladies for how they competed tonight," stated Head Coach Tracey Braden. "It's tough playing back-to-back dates." The Blue Jays just defeated MacMurray College on Wednesday night.

The Central Christian Saints made the first basket of the game, but the Blue Jays went on a 12-0 run over a four minute span to take a 10 point lead. They maintained their lead, and with 11:37 on the clock, junior Sadie Theroff drained a three to start a 13-0 run that lasted five minutes.

A three from sophomore Bailey Mitchell gave the Blue Jays a 26 point lead with 1:51 to play in the first, and the Blue Jays headed into halftime holding a 40-17 lead.

The Blue Jays shot 71.4 percent from the three-point line in the first half after missing just two shots.

Theroff and sophomore Andrea Zalis each scored five points to start the second half, bringing the Blue Jays up by 31. The Saints cut the game to 24 points with 11 minutes to go, but Westminster slowly increased their lead. Two from freshman Taylor Howard at the foul line brought the Blue Jays up 71-37 with 3:33 on the clock.

Freshman Brittany Morris put the final touch on the game with a bucket underneath to win 75-42.

The Blue Jays went 12-12 from the line in the second half. They ended the game with a 44.4 percentage from the field and a three-point field goal percentage of 57.1.

Zalis led the Blue Jays with 11 points and five boards. Seniors Danielle Smulczenski and Danielle Williams also pulled down five boards in the victory.

The Blue Jays travel to Eureka, Illinois on Saturday to face Eureka College in the SLIAC Game of the Week. Tip-off is at 1:00 p.m.
