Five home runs led the Westminster baseball team to two conference wins over Fontbonne University on Monday afternoon. All runs in the 1-0 and 7-2 wins came off home runs, starting the Westminster Blue Jay's conference and divisional play with a 2-0 record. They are 6-4 on the season.  

Game One

Junior Connor Hager scored the only run in the first game with a solo home run in the fourth inning over the right field fence. The Blue Jays recorded three hits on the game.

Defensively, junior Nick Cessna led the field with 11 putouts, and Hager finished with six assists.

On the mound, senior Deion Hughes (4-0) pitched the complete game win. He allowed just two hits while striking out seven of the 23 batters faced. 

Game Two

Senior Tyler Branneky started the bats in game two with a home run over the left center fence in the bottom of the second. Cessna came up just one batter later and his first swing was a homer over the right field fence.

In the bottom of the third, Ty. Branneky was back at the plate with two runners on base. On the first pitch, he hit his second home run of the game over the left field fence to bring in three runs. 

Fontbonne scored an unearned run in the sixth inning to get on the board, but in the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Adam Mundle hit a two-run home run over right field to go up 7-1.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Fontbonne brought in an unearned run to bring the score to 7-2, but the next batter grounded out to Hager at second.

The Blue Jays had nine hits throughout the eight innings, led by Ty. Branneky with three. He also recorded four RBI and two runs. 

Senior Collin Brinker (1-2) pitched the complete game and allowed no earned runs. He struck out nine batters while facing 34.

The Blue Jays close out the three-game divisional series with Fontbonne on Tuesday, March 15, in St. Louis, Mo. First pitch is at 3:00 pm.
